Dayton, Ohio –  (November 19th, 2025) – Mined XAI is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $1.24 million Ohio Federal Research Network (OFRN) grant to advance the company’s REACT-X project, an innovative AI decision-support platform designed to help first responders, medics, and planners make real-time, life-saving decisions in resource-constrained casualty scenarios.

Collaborators on the grant include The Ohio State University’s Injury Biomechanics Research Center (IBRC), Wright State University’s Interaction Design and Modeling Lab, Injury Biomechanical Global (IBG), and the Ohio Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC). The non-funded Federal partners include the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Naval Medical Research Unit–Dayton (NAMRU-D), and NASA.

REACT-X (Resilient Explainable AI for Casualty Triage with Logistics Awareness using Deep Topological Modeling) introduces a predictive, explainable AI platform poised to transform battlefield medical triage, en-route care, and medical logistics. The system analyzes multimodal data to generate transparent, XAI-enabled risk assessments, empowering medics in austere, contested environments to identify patients at high risk of medical decompensation, prioritize life-saving interventions, and adjust treatment strategies based on real-time logistics awareness.

The Mined XAI team, along with our partners, is excited to develop a data-driven solution that can save the lives of U.S. military personnel and civilians,” said Dr. Rajesh Naik, Chief Operating Officer of Mined XAI and lead principal investigator for the project. “Our collaboration with OSU, WSU, IBG, and OMIC brings together a truly cross-disciplinary team committed to solving some of the most challenging problems in casualty care and logistics.”

The grant will also help spur job growth and workforce development across Ohio. This grant’s period of performance runs through April 2027.

The OFRN is a science and technology enhancement program managed by Parallax Advanced Research in collaboration with The Ohio State University and funded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The OFRN brings together federal partners, academia, and industry in Ohio to drive innovation and commercialization and funds and facilitates statewide R&D projects that are focused on fulfilling the critical mission needs of Ohio’s federal installations.

About The Ohio State University Injury Biomechanics Research Center:

The Injury Biomechanics Research Center (IBRC) at The Ohio State University is a multi-disciplinary research center dedicated to investigating the relationships between human injury and physical mechanical properties. The IBRC has completed research in the field of automobile safety for the last 15 years. The IBRC brings together an interdisciplinary team of engineers, anatomists, anthropologists, physicians, computer modelers and technicians, who focus on both mechanisms of injury and injury thresholds of the human body.

The Injury Biomechanics Research Center has the capabilities to test with both anthropomorphic test devices (crash test dummies) and post-mortem human subjects donated through the willed body donor program at The Ohio State University.

About Injury Biomechanical Global:

Injury Biomechanics Global is dedicated to reducing fatalities and serious injuries among road users by advancing the principles of the Safe System Approach. Our efforts center on educating the next generation of crash safety professionals through the annual Injury Biomechanics Symposium. We also serve as a platform for collaboration among government agencies, industry leaders, and academic institutions, fostering dialogue and innovation in support of Vision Zero objectives.

The Safe System Approach is a modern framework for road safety that seeks to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries from traffic crashes. At its core, the approach recognizes the vulnerability of the human body and its limited tolerance to crash forces, emphasizing that road and vehicle design must account for these limits.

About Ohio Manufacturing Innovation Center:

The Ohio Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) sits at the intersection of industry and education, providing students needed real-life experience and providing industry with engineering and business solutions and a higher qualified employment candidate. OMIC addresses the needs of the coming microelectronics, AI/ML and aerospace industries, OMIC is poised to be a principal channel for experiential learning for all Ohio higher-education institutes, while serving talent and innovation needs for industry.

OMIC’s technical research capabilities and fully-functional electronic design, prototype and small-scale production facilities, provides a channel for real-life, “experiential learning” opportunities for Ohio’s engineering and allied STEM students, while providing industry with cost-effective access to talent and equipment for engineering, R&D and micro-electronics support.
